Don't really understand how someone could say that goju ryu is the only real karate. I train in shotokan and the things we learn are as real as it gets

In most gyms, my understanding is that usually the students themselves should be able to shut you down, well before you even get close to the teacher. If its a good school, nine times out of ten, the lower level students will do it.

not necesarily; traditionally, you have to get through the lower level students first, before you can challenge the head instructor himself.

most people who show up to reputable, good Karate schools who run their mouth, generally can't even get past the yellow belts. In MMA, the people who show up can't get past the guys who have only been doing MMA for 3 months.

If it is not effective then why have they continued for centuries, its not just self defence it is a complete fighting system !

it is real,a right bunch of horseshit.Its staggering how unrealistic the training is .The problem is theres no contact,so no way to check its effectiveness so they just carried on with the same shite for centuries.All graet if youre doing it for self improvement but most arent so deep and think its for self defense.
