Portland garden designer Lucy Hardiman has a wonderful garden that is made to have some kind of plant interest throughout the year.
Visiting her garden in March is no exception. The area we visited was along the front hillside.
Many hellebores in bloom in a wide range of color and style of bloom. This is the best time to buy hellebores because often plants are sold as 'mixed' and buying now you can be assured of getting the color you want. Her Edgeworthia chrysantha (Chinese Paper Bush) is magnificent. It is in full bloom with many new flower buds yet to open. A great fragrance, I could smell it long before I reached the plant. An interesting feature of this plant is the new stems tend to come out in groups of three.
Hi Lucy, how nicely your garden has grown over the years. I live in the frozen North in Nova Scotia now, so I love seeing how you are doing. My father and I had a great time exploring your garden, and he was gone the next year.
I hope you are doing well, and if you are ever in Cape Breton, look me up. Marian Pancoast Whitcomb

you would have gotten a HELL of ALOT more views if you had a picture of Lucy in a really tight, above the knee's skirt. Going with "Private Bush Garden of Lucy Hardiman" would make it even higher.

Lucy did a good job with the paper bush. I would like to add though that hellebores are poisonous when ingested
