**READ THIS** The blog is at cananalyze.blogspot.com Correspondence of the movie with Augustine's 'Confessions', the text of which is freely available on Wikisource. Gumb thinks he can use Starling's thigh as the eighth and final piece of skin for his suit, even though she's really too small; this reflects the fact that his attempt at creation is a bungling and inept one.
Another attempt to impose a false, arbitrary symbolism on a writer's work. Tolkien, in particular, hated this. I wouldn't be surprised if Harris felt the same, but I could be wrong. It wouldn't surprise me though. I can't be bothered to google it even. It's just too easy in a postmodern literary age to make one thing say another. To be honest it bores me. I'm only posting this because I'm drunk and irritated...
Not that the rest of this is logically sound, but the claim that gumb needs starling as his 8th victim to complete his suit of skin is especially dubious considering that 7 is representative of completeness, which I actually will buy. If all the rest of the analysis were true, Starling would represent a lot more than just being an 8th victim for skin
@ryansth16 You're right that she represents more than this - as indicated in the introduction and part 3 videos, she represents the Holy Trinity and the virgin Mary. It's true that 7 is completeness, but as indicated in the 'hidden plot' video, Gumb wants to 'pre-empt' Lecter's resurrection as the Antichrist. (Some Christians consider Jesus' resurrection to be an 8th day of creation.) Also, note that the skin suit hanging on the mannequin in Gumb's basement needs a thigh piece...continued...
@ryansth16 ...The suit also needs the upper left chest area, which is to be provided by Catherine Martin.
Did you watch the 'hidden plot' video?
It occurs to Gumb that he can use Starling's thigh even though she's small, because his attempt at creation is a sloppy one - he is mentally 'disorganized' and inept.
