@Chad01234 While i strongly in part believe that to be a true statement the correlation behind the martial arts is not the style but the fighter. True 99 percent of kung fu guys would likely have a hard time against any well trained mma fighter however if 1 says kung fu isn't good enough it enforces that they don't know how to make it work. Kung fu is a very interchangeable art with the right mix of anything you can defend from mma.

Btw, check out Eagle Claw Grandmaster Sifu Lily Lau here: watch?v=pL8xIx8zomo. Recognize 6:19? It's none other than Jones' winning standing guillotine. It's nothing new.

I'm sure you've heard the story. Many Kung Fu schools went down to challenge Muay Thai. Almost all of them lost but Choy Lee Fut won! Now is CLF really a superior style to MT and the other Kung Fu? No! It may just be a good matchup (I suspect the reason is the unorthodox leading power hand and emphasis on quick combinations, which is the basis for many sport styles). Yet you don't see any CLF in MMA either. MMA is a fad like 'all fights to to ground' BJJ. It was 'best' until it lost

@Chad01234 The difference with MMA is that you're in there to compete so you learn everything from cardio to opponent background. If you train 8 hours a day for competition, more power to you. A JKA circle insider though: Lyoto's father was actually approached to do MMA, which is the only reason why Lyoto began. He then changed his game to suit pads, mat, and cage. TMartists' PURPOSES are different. And I HAVE seldom to resort to brawling: comes with practice and understanding

@FoieGras Thirdly (sorry for rant), I grew up near China Town in Vancouver, B,C. in the 1980s. I loved Kung Fu theater, watched it in Mandarin/Cantonese (rarely had sub titles). But I didn't care, I loved the artistry of Shaolin, and the imagination of Chinese mythology. Trust me when I saw I WANT a person like the master in your video to walk into MMA and show the world that Kung Fu can be effective in the right hands. Sadly, it just has not happened. Maybe you can be that guy.
-
@FoieGras Secondly, I wish to the gods that I would for once see true classical martial application in an MMA environment. I love Wing Chun, American Kenpo, Kali/Escrima arts (open hands version), Hung Gar Gung Fu, Penjak Silat, but as of yet, regardless of style, its always kick, punch, grapple, kick punch. "Our art is too deadly for MMA" is my favorite comeback. To which I always say that there is more to Kung Fu than an eye strike. Frustrating :/.
-
@FoieGras You have every right to say that. I wasn't even slightly irritated because your words ring true. But, humbly, let me add, that as someone who detests, loathes, despises the BS on tv, I have as well learned to take that same attitude (just as Bruce Lee did in his day) and apply it to martial arts. Many arts are just fluff, or a classical mess (as Sifu Lee put it). And yeah - you are right about Jones, probably a bad example on my part. Btw - I love Machida.

@Chad01234 I smell so much bullshit. Yeah, maybe against someone like Jon Jones. Do you see those types of people everyday. Hell, most MMA fighters would lose to him. I talk from experience in actual self defense situations as well (not as many as you have been in of course). But seeing as though you talk the same "this style is better than that style" talk as everyone on youtube rather than showcasing any technical knowledge, I'm inclined to think all you do is watch TV.
-
@FoieGras I work with mentally ill violent young men. I probably see at least one to three fist fights a day - most of which I end up in the middle of. Sorry to splash the cold water of reality into your face but while I agree that Chinese martial arts hit Okinawa around the 1300s, the stuff is just worthless for real self defense against an aggressive trained fighter (combination stand up/ground styled fighter). You won't beat a guy like Jon Jones/Anderson Silva with it, ever..
-
@Chad01234 It is - Lyoto Machida. In case you've done your research, you'll already know that Fujian White Crane is the basis for Karate. The tension dynamic, blocks, reverse punches, and hip movement are virtually identical from those of original Okinawan Karate.
And, no matter what TV would tell you otherwise, most fights end with a few exchanges. A bare-knuckled punch cuts much deeper than any gloved punch, no matter how lightly padded and there are no mats in real life
To all of you who mock this style, I strongly suggest you try and fight one of these guys.

Great video and Beautiful Form !
As a Wing Chun practitioner , I can really see and appreciate just how much White Crane inspiration went into the development of Wing Chun - as the Wing Chun history and traditions tell it.Thank you for posting this .
