Egypt moves to curb population explosion - 21 Feb 09

The Arab world's most populous nation is reviving a family planning programme to encourage parents to consider having fewer children.

Egypt's population growth rate is two and a half times that of China, and about the same as India.

The government is aiming to bring down the average family size from 3 children to 2 by 2017. Amr El-Kahky has more.

So what if "universal large" families are fairly recent? Let the human pop naturally blossom in size, so that more and more people may experience life, and because government can't reasonably be in billions of people's bedrooms, nor hold their hands to make all their decisions for them.

But I read of families growing large, long ago in my Bible, and demographic data, suggests families on average, are not growing larger than before.

Lots of kids dying young, again, is no answer.

I told somebody the other day, that it's better to live in stacked-up condos, than to not live at all, because there was too few births. Well they agreed, considering that alternative. Nonexistence isn't preferable.

No, I don't believe the world faces a "terribly overcrowded" future, but I do believe that parents should have children, even within overcrowded living conditions, because more and more people would be glad to live, because "babies happen."

To all the religions...what is the answer then, when, in the future the world is terribly overcrowded and green space is rare , the ocean is nearly absent of all fish etc etc ? Is Jesus or Mohammad or who ever going to suddenly appear on earth, and fix all our environmental problems ? No.. it seems very unlikey...the person who coined the phrase...populate or perish, should be jailed....

The growth rate for hundreds of year in Egypt was almost zero - people had lots of kids, but most of them died in childhood. Universal large families are fairly recent, and can't last for too long.
