Chitarra Romana (Alle Lieder meiner Liebe) Tango (E.di Lazzaro) - Heinz Huppertz (Violine) mit seinem "Rio Rita" Tango-Orchester, Odeon c. 1939 (Germany)
-----------------------------------
Heinz HUPPERTZ (b. 1902 in Krefeld, Germany -- d. 1972 in Berlin), German bandleader, piano and violin virtuoso. As a young man had studied at the Krefeld music school and later, in the Cologne Conservatory. In the late 1920s he formed his own orchestra for an engagement in Berlin ("Cafe Schön" in Unter den Linden, and others). In 1932 his orchestra became the house band of the „Rio Rita" night bar in Tauentzienstrasse 12 (Charlottenburg) -- one of most trendy meeting places for the high-life of Berlin in 1930s. It had several halls and the walls decorated with scenes from the life of a Spanish dancer, Rio Rita. During this period Huppertz made many recordings, mostly for "Odeon". When WW II ended, he and his orchestra played mainly at balls and sports tournaments. „Rio Rita", as well as this part of Berlin, was turned into ruins. In 1962 ultra modern Europa-Center was erected in this area.

CHITARRA ROMANA (A Roman Guitar) is a tango composed in 1934 by Eldo Di Lazzaro, one of the most prolific and popular Italian composers of the 1930s. Lovely Italian text tells about the beauty of Rome and charm of the sound of Roman guitars. The song quickly became an international ballroom hit and till today is assumed one of the „classic" tangos of the XXth century.
NOTE: look at the picture of the Odeon label, which opens my clip! It has the interesting tag of the record store, pasted on it: the name of the city is Bromberg (= the German name of the Polish city Bydgoszcz, in Pomerania) and below can be seen the name of the street: Adolf Hitler Strasse. It proves, the record was distributed in the area of occupied Poland, during World War II.
