The 2007 New York Mets have completed the largest most tragic collapse in the history of sports. They were ahead of the Phillies by 7 games on September 12th and lost the division on the last day of the season and missed the playoffs.

Billy Wagner was a great addition for the Mets. A late season choke artist who trashed his former team saying the Phils didn't have what it takes to make it to the playoffs (see 2007-present). So he signed with the Mets. Alot of good that did him. When the Mets faced the Phils at Citizens Bank Park for the first time in 2006, 46,000 Phillies fans boo'd that ankle-biting motherfucker. It was music to my ears.

@wiixbox360mets and the mets haven't been in the playoffs since 2006 and lost to the cardinals that year. bro, dont even try to start a fight. look point is, the phillies have been WAY BETTER than the mets for the past 4 years. and now the phils have the best record in major league baseball.

Probably was put up by a Yankee fan, but regardless, the only quick point I want to make, and I almost feel silly bringing it up since they were both such tremendous collapses, but the 1964 Phillies was a worse collapse. Blowing just a 1/2 game less lead (6 1/2) but with 5 fewer games left in which to do it (12 compared to 17) is definitely worse. About 4 1/2 games worse (5 - 1/2).
