Reebok Commercials - Dan and Dave - 1992

A series of 5 Reebok commercials with American decathlete rivals Dan O'Brien and Dave Johnson. In the summer of '92 they were both supposed to compete in the olympics in Barcelona. Unfortunately, Dan failed to qualify five weeks before the start of the games. ESPN ranked this one of the top 5 biggest sports busts.

It's amazing about Dan O'Brien's story, with this much-hyped ad, only to miss out in the qualification rounds- and then redeeming himself four years later in Atlanta. :)

This was just one of the ads or promos Reebok ran for them. It wasn't suppose to be all-inclusive tribute.

Winning an Olympic Bronze medal with a stress fracture in your foot is anything but a failure. Especially considering it was in the DECATHLON.

You have obviously never had a stress fracture in your foot. You know what the recommended treatment for that is?

Rest. Stay off your feet. Don't bear weight on it. -_-

Oddly enough the media, even in the US didn't have high hopes for Dave Johnson after Dan flamed out so spectacularly. (Most felt Dave was too old to pull off a gold.) Up in Canada we were all cheering for Michael Smith but unfortunately he was made of glass and sustained injuries yet again. (A chronic thing for Smith.) You can say that the entire 1992 decathlon event was one of the biggest busts ever because of Dan flaming out, Dave playing hurt and Smith breaking down.
