Dan failed to qualify for the team when he no-heighted on the pole vault, leaving Dave as the presumed gold medal winner. Unfortunately for him, Johnson experienced a stress fracture in his left foot on the first day of events. He put on a shoe two sizes larger, laced it up tight, and competed anyway and won the bronze medal.

All you guys who say dan and dave were a bust are ignorant. To qualify to be in a decathlon is an amazing feet. And dan didnt only qualify, he got a gold. And for those out there who think dave wasnt very good, read his book. He had microfractures throughout his heel when he got the bronze. That means that the entire time he was in the barcelona decathlon he was in extreme agony. These two men are people we should be proud of. Not calling washouts.

Thumbs up if you search for this commercial cause CREG ROWIN talked about it in one of his videos

He didn't fail to qualify in 1992 because he was washed up and couldn't make it. He lost on a technicality. He failed to clear his opening height in the Pole Vault. He omitted lower opening heights, a common manuever, to skip to one that he was confident with but was also fairly high comparatively. He was having a bad day, missed it three times, and received 0 points for the Pole Vault event. That 0 made it impossible to qualify. He was however well qualified as an athlete to go that year.

Did blink 182 wrote a song about this commercial?
It's amazing about Dan O'Brien's story, with this much-hyped ad, only to miss out in the qualification rounds- and then redeeming himself four years later in Atlanta. :)
