The 90s had its trend of really great fighting games. I personally think this was the best of the series. I don't know why. I guess it's the background music.

This is one of the best fighting games ever (together with Tekken 3)! And I dont just mean on the Playstation 1, this game kick ass then and it sure kick ass now!

Man I miss this game so much.
as far as the goal in single player mode being to find "soul calibur", id have to say that thats not true. From my experience with Soul Blade which is pretty rich, "Soul Calibur" never even existed in Soul Blade. In Soul Blade every characters goal included either finding the sword "Soul Edge" to somehow inhherit its power or to destroy the sword which was believed by most to be evil. Just thought I had to clear that up considering that Soul Blade has a great place in my gaming history.

Yeah, sorry - my bad. I did mean "Soul Edge" but "Soul Calibur" came out instead. I got a little mixed up in the storyline and the name differences between the Japanese/North American release probably helped in my confusion (Soul Edge/Blade).
I played this game non-stop when it was first released, but didn't spend a whole lot of time on the single player modes. I was engrossed with battling my roommates in the vs. mode at the time.
