How to make a simple retort out of scrap metal, heat it using a propane torch or a wood fire, and use it to safely reclaim the mercury used in collecting small particles of gold.   • Sounds like you are charging the mercury with sodium. Why does this help in amalgamating gold? Is the gold in the form of tellurides, or complexes and the like? Is it also possible to make a retort out of a dense ceramic as well like Zirconia, with possibly a steel heating filament inside?
