Part 3 of 6. CNN-INDIA's Weekend Edition debated: Is Narendra Modi really prime minister material?

Hosted by Rajdeep Sardesai
C.E.O. & Editor in chief of CNN-INDIA

Corporate India has endorsed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as a prime ministerial candidate. The praise of leading industrialists for Modi and suggestions that he could be the prime minister has created a flutter in the political circles.

However, the ghost of the Anti-Muslim riots in 2002 in the state refuses to leave Modi and his detractors say he cannot be considered a true leader. With Parliamentary elections just a few months away.

  • for those claiming that gujurat is this great haven, dream on. the south is where is all the business in india is at, not the north. bangalore and hyderabad. thats where all the multinational companies are located at - not fucking gujju land. so please quit with how great gujjulands economy is, because thats a joke. they come to the south to work there, nobody goes to gujju land from the south to work there.

  • to the retards who keep harping on 'development', there is way more development in south india, look at hyderabad, look at bangalore, all done by NON BJP govts! so give me a break on this bullshit ok!

  • mugabe is a siant compared to this racist, facist, psychotic, mass murderer

he expresses no remorse for the riots, he cannot even condemn the riots

honour the memory of the true heroes of the nation, remember KARKARE and what he died for, remember how his wife rebuked modi and his cohorts.

    make the right choice.

  • exactly, and i think manish tewari did a fantastic job in his arguments and a big reason why i support the congress party. india needs a party and govt. that can unify its diversity, not divide everyone for the sake of political fortunes and im a Muslim saying thi. i could hate hindus if i wanted to, but thats exactly what fanatics like modi and the bjp want and its something i refuse to give them.

  • Why do Gujarati fanatics want Modi as PM? To kill the remaining Muslims and Christians?. Indian corporate corrupted Gujarati motherfuckers like Mukesh and Anil wants to buy the whole land of India and build their own empire.

  • true, and fanatics like modi, want muslims, sikhs and christians to hate hindus. well i refuse to give them what they want. i will not hate hindus because of madmen like modi. i think manish tewari did a terrific job in this debate and its a big reason why i support the congress party of india and rahul gandhi for Prime Minister!

  • Rajdeep...need to let other people talk...he keep talking and talking and talking..try to prove his point..not ready to listen to other people wants to say

  • I dont know if the allegations put on him are true or not. However, in the media/press around the world he is continuously being linked to riots and communal tension in the state. WHY IS THAT? Why does he walk away from such crucial subjects?

  • I strongly believe that, we need young leaders who will posses a much broader perspective towards all aspects of societal development- social, economic and cultural. People who are not only focused toward industrial development but also take steps in regulating other aspects like education, diverse cultures and professional sports.

  • I am from Vadodara Gujarat. I really acknowledge what Narendra Modi has done for the state and am surprised by his progress in the industrial sector. People around the world are talking about his rapid and efficient development policies. I really acknowledge and am proud of this. Now having said the above, I have observed from his speeches and recent interviews that when it come to subjects like religion and culture he has very stringent stand.

  • I appreciate Modis efficiency. However being elected as PM international politics will bring lot of unwanted attention to India especially from the muslim world. It may even get the worlds attention on Kashmir which we don't need. India cannot afford international pressure esp here. He would be viewed more like Robert Mugabe. India has earned a lot in international politics and we cannot afford to loose that credibility by having a tyrant as a PM. We don't need India to be like another Germany
