The Ulithi Marine Turtle Project, on Gielop Island, Ulithi Atoll, Yap State, Micronesia, allowing a visiting Oceanic Society ecotourism group to release some green turtle hatchlings. The release was done right at sunset. You will notice that the hatchlings were released at the top of the beach so that they could orient themselves to the water and to allow this release to be as "normal" as possible. Ulithi Atoll islands support one of the most important Green Turtle nesting populations in the region. The local community on Falalop is supporting the projects monitoring efforts. Most of the sea turtle tagging and monitoring workers are Ulithi residents. In 2007 a total of 250 nesting female turtles were tagged by this local research team over a period of 55 nights on the island.

  • if you talked to me like that, I'd just walk away and ignore your project

  • I'm not quite sure I know what you mean. I was simply telling the folks there who were taking pictures and walking backwards to remember to watch out for the hatchlings that had gotten behind them already. The hatchlings are so small and fragile that the weight of someone accidentally stepping on one could be fatal. Also the guilt one feels if that was to happen can make a once in a lifetime event, memorable for the wrong reasons.

  • That is my daughter. She's home now

  • will you be filming the turtle hatchlings swimming in the ocean?

  • Thank you for your reply...please be nice to the girl, she is a long long way from home and is homesick.

  • Are you trying to tell yourself, l not to step on these green turtles hatchlings, while you're filming this video? The girl looks brave to be helping them get out of that barrel lol!
