The EOS system positions the image stabilization function in the lens. This makes it possible to equip each lens with a system optimized for the specific lens characteristics, enabling high-precision correction of camera shake even for high-magnification telephoto units. When shooting with an SLR camera, it is necessary to confirm the effects of image stabilization in the viewfinder. A stable viewfinder image lets the photographer concentrate on the creative aspects of picture taking, such as framing, focus, and special effects, ensuring comfortable shooting that maximizes every photo opportunity.

With an external Image Stabilizer you can, it's called a tripod.

  • @michonn2

the 24 70 2.8 is an update of the older 28 70 Lens ( the present lens is not 9 years old ) .. an IS is nice to have but i am now working with the 24 - 70 for 3 years and do not need an update for that lens !

  • That amount of shake without the IS on is just a poor handheld technique!

  • Another question 4 u.. !

When will you update your 400 5'6 L USM adding an IS and a non rotating hood at least!

Never.. don't you? you're affraid of loosing sales of bigger, heavier! and expensive ones.. isn't it?

Well you may prefer us to go for Sigma, Tamron, & such..

  • CANON i have question to YOU!!! when u gonna move your ass to update old standart lens 24-70 2.8 ?!! Remember we are your customers and waiting for that about 9 years !!! SHAME ON YOU !

  • @editedbyfailure cause you won't notice it if you look through the viewfinder

  • same for nikon :-P

  • Why don't you put it in body?

  • watch the viewfinder: the only problem is that the image stabilizer won't let you take sharp pictures with a shutter speed of 60 seconds :D

  • only one problem, i keep hearing that that specific lens is one of their worst for quality
