What happened:
Two women were removed from the club, which lead to a fight at the front door. While fighting, the bouncers allowed a woman to pass into the club with a concealed handgun. She then shot a man in the head and groin. He was brain dead instantly. He died the next day.
What we did right:
When a person is killed INSIDE the club, can we even talk about what security did RIGHT?
What we did wrong:
Two very basic mistakes lead to this tragedy.
1) There was no armed security outside that night.
2a) An armed person taking advantage during a moment of distraction, like a fight, is not new. The bouncers at the door are very experienced and should have known that. Which ever bouncer was assigned to watch the entry way, involved himself in the fight, and STOPPED watching the entry.
What we could do better:
Bad things can happen even under perfect circumstances. HOWEVER, that doesn't matter to the children of Dominic Nicholas Mahone, the 25 year old man who died inside the club that patted him down to make sure he was unarmed. His killer knew this.
2b) Unfortunately, this may have been as simple as the batteries being dead in the metal detector or it just wasn't used. In either event, females would have been allowed entry without a body search of any kind.
@thaking070 As one of those bouncers, this is where I would defend the club and what we did but I can't do anything but offer my condolences.
