Singer and spoken word artist, La Bruja, gave a show-stopping performance at Breakthrough's forum, "Why Can't America Have Human Rights?" at The Riverside Church in New York City on September 14, 2006. The event, co-sponsored by 70 organizations, attracted 600 guests, including community members, students, and leaders. The speakers and performers were united in their platform— we must take a stand against abuses and create a much needed human rights movement in the United States.

Obviously, you have more rights in the west then most places. However, the so called west likes to go around & call the rest of world backwards, when they are comminting similar injustices to their own people. That`s the point. I know you didn`t exactly call it that, but if you look at those countries with such a condesending attitutude it`s not a stretch to imagine you`d think that, afterall the N.American media paints it that way.

depends where`d i be living, if I knew anyone etc. none . Canada ftw. That still doesn`t take away from the point of this wonderfully written peace, and statement. In my homeland or "shithole" as you would say at least, South Africa, at least homosexuals have full rights .

america is not all good...like the countries you just listend are NOT all bad . I think what the statement is trying to suggest is, that America always tries to be the moral police of the world but they always seem to bypass their own problems and injustices. For example, the U.S media went crazy with the rape in marriage laws in afghanistan , but america had the same laws in the 1970s and women are still not compltely equal. I do not condone that shit but, it is something to think about.

Very awesome performer,
someone once told me I was like "La Bruja" the singer,
now I know that was a total comment! I love how she's fun without using her sexuality to sell the performance.
