www.IDTheftSecurity.com Realize that at the point of manufacture and anywhere in between a virus and can installed on any device that has storage capacity. A digital picture frame is a storage device, like an external hardrive or thumbdrive. Any device that runs on software or is meant to store data can contain a virus. Upon installation the device activates the virus infecting your PC.

1. Make sure you have antivirus software that is set to automatically download and update your virus definitions. Antivirus software that requires manual downloads is bound to be out of date.

2. Run anti-virus software on everything you install into your computer. As soon as the device is plugged in, direct your antivirus to scan the media to determine if its infected or safe.

3. Prior to making the purchase do your own searches, find out if there have been any problems with that particular device. Don't just buy it based on price do it based on technology and the reputation of the company.

4. Reminder: Anything you plug into your computer could have a virus!

I ran into this problem last Christmas after buying an overly priced picture frame from bloomingdale's. As soon as I hooked it up, I got a warning that a virus was detected and subsequently deleted.
