Prelude in C#m, Op.3, No.2 by Rachmaninoff

One of Rachmaninoff's very early and widely celebrated compositions this piece is absolutely beautiful with its haunting, chordal melody and interlocking harmonies. I heard that this piece was supposed to represent a man being buried alive; the first few octaves are like nails being driven into the coffin, the initial A theme could be the eulogy, the agitato B theme is his flashback of his life coupled with his present panic, the recap of the A theme is the fear of being interred alive and the final coda is like the people above slowly leaving. I doubt this is what Rachmaninoff was trying to convey but I liked the idea very much and ran with it. I think this piece most recently appeared on the film "The Exorcism of Emily Rose."

and btw. at the agitato part its very hard to follow the melody because you play the other notes to loud. at some points its pretty brilliant, at others you hardly can hear it.
