Turi Alcoser, a junior materials science and biomedical engineering major from San Antonio, attended Carnegie Mellon's Summer Academy for Mathematics and Science (SAMS) as a rising high school senior. SAMS is a program designed to increase the number of outstanding college-bound students from diverse backgrounds who pursue education in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines. He reflects on his time in the program and how it sparked his interest in research.
