@success0009 They were more likely to have been Hindus than Muslims. Hinduism has a far greater disrespect for women than Islam. If there ARE Muslims practicing the dowry system in which the man expects to be paid a dowry by the parents of the daughter, this is due to an ancient ( before Islam ) tribal custom, and NOT according to Islam. In Hinduism, it IS a part of the religion, even though it has been nominally outlawed. India has little power to enforce its own laws upon its population

@GDZjeenik I do NOT see India overtaking China in population in the next 10 years to mean India would somehow be a "the next superpower" like China surely IS. This huge population of POOR people is a great liability. There are at least 900 million poor people in India, if not over a billion, and more starving people than in the entire continent of Africa. There are more cell phones in India than toilets.

@sumantaxp I agree. There was an analysis done of the most dangerous countries in the world for women. India came in 4th place. The most dangerous was Afghanistan. But this was due to the wars. In India, it is due to the dowry system, the infanticide of daughters, starvation of daughters, sex trafficking, child prostitution, and of course, India not being safe for women with respect to rape.
