First part of 80s Brit TV rare interview with the late Ram Gopal, Indian classical dancer. He performed Bharatanatyam having learnt from Pandanallur Minakshisundaram Pillai as well as others. Also performed Kathak & many styles of folk dance around Europe in the first half of the 20th century.
Considered more 'authentic' than Uday Shankar.

Very interesting video. I was offered the job of being his personal assistant in the 1980s through my yoga teacher Velta Wilson, who had danced with him in India. He didn't turn up to meet me and later phoned to appologise and explain that he had been to a film premiere. Being very stubborn I than refused to work for him and missed the chance to know one of the world's greatest dancers personally. I think I made the wrong decision - but who knows?

I had an honour to meet the Master in my country, late 70, maybe 78 or 79 in Warsaw, I remember that nobody reconize Him even in Indo-Polish Friendship Society headquarter. I had a priviledge to assist Ram Gopal to revisit our Great Theatre where He had His performance as a young boy. Great, modest personality! May Allmighty and all good spirits take care of His soul!

After I saw this and the two other videos, I felt so lucky to see the dance and hear him speak. You are more lucky to meet him in person when the entire world had forgotten him. Is it possible for you to upload the two movies that were made on him?

My Mum saw a documentary at school on Ram Gopal when she was about 11 years old - that would be 1951. She'd never seen an Indian dancer before, but she never forgot his name. I was really pleased to find this and to be able to show it to her. Thanks for posting this up. Really enjoyed it.
