OK this is obscure by even my standards. To get this you have to be into 1960's chinese cinema and know some chinese. Here's a community-hear-swelling scene from "February" (Zao Chun Er Yue) from 1963. Idealistic protagonist encounters young mother widowed by revolution. Storytelling method is just very, very communist Chinese.
He looks at the pagoda at 0:13. That is the marker which is on the hill above Mao Zedong's birthplace. Very significant landmark, I think that's why he looks so inspired.
