Be sure to check out this link: http://www.youtube.com/user/actionadventures In the video now playing: Linc, his 12-year-old son, Sam, and his friend Marcelo Echeverria "Shark", head out for a weekend hike up to the summit of Mount Baldy. Linc and Shark have been backpacking together ever since they were in their early teens. They've hiked throughout the High Sierras including to the summit of Mount Whitney, Glacier National Park in Montana, and to the two highest peaks in Southern California, Mount San Gorgonio (highest) and Mount San Jacinto (several times). The third highest in Southern California is Mount Baldy. The time had finally come to get to the top of that one to complete the big three. The chosen route: The Mount Baldy or Manker Flats loop, about 11.3 miles. This video is an in-depth look at the whole hike and a peek into the world and camaraderie of Linc and Shark. • @vickizspace I did upload our Whitney hike just a couple of weeks ago. Check it out on my channel. No dog ; )

  • @vickizspace I understand what you're saying because I went through the same ordeal. That's partly why I filmed places on the trail that looked like fine places to set up a tent. Since it sounds like you have a lot of experience, I don't think you would have any trouble locating spots for a tent. I saw plenty all along the trail, but at very long intervals. Best to call the ranger station for permits and other info. Hope that helps. Also, be sure to check out all 5 parts of the video.

  • @vickizspace I kid you not, we woke up in the morning after a very windy night and about an hour later, a dad, his friend, and a 10 year old (about that) hiked up to the peak starting off in the early morning and going up the steep 4.5 mile trail. I think if you got a real early start, say 4 or 5 in the morning from the Manker Flats parking lot, you might be able to do it. You can always turn back anytime and downhill is easy.

  • @vickizspace If you see Part 5 of the same title it will go over a little of the logistics. I do think there are a lot of hazards involved, especially staying at the top. Actually, there were about 20 other people camping out up there, I just kept them out of the camera. It was very cold and windy and scary when the kids weren't feeling very well. I wouldn't advise a 7 year old sleeping up there, but you don't have to sleep at the top.

  • @vickizspace Too much : ) Actually, punch in Part 4 of the same title and you'll see exactly what I packed. There are 5 video parts to this hike. Good question! (I do understand there are always ways to lighten up the load).

  • @NonHippieHiker Thanks again! I appreciate it!

  • @actionadventures ahhh, I didn't even notice there was more parts! Great stuff!

  • @NonHippieHiker Thanks for the tip! If you see Part 3, you'll notice that we actually do take that trail, but from the top. The Sierra Club hut and the Baldy Bowl are all over that part. It is indeed a spectacular hike.
