  • My 14 yo husky Boris got bloat in Jan. Fortunately, we were able to save his life because I recognized the symptoms and got him to the vet early enough for them to do surgery.

His symptoms started out with him wanting to go outside, but not doing anything. Looking like he wanted to vomit. Whining, and shallow breathing/panting. He also was trying to get my attention. It's hard to explain, but I knew it. That's when I remembered to look for a distended stomach, and found it was tight as a drum

  • i just lost my girl to bloat the other night RIP NIPPER 28/08/02 - 15/04/10 she was gone within an hour,we had to put her down because we were to late.

  • I have heard from , I believe Purdue University, that GDV has increased by 1500% over the last 30 years. Do you know what Dr. Larry thinks about this and whether or not pesticides have been a contributing factor to gastro-intestinal motility - leading to bloat?

    Thanks

  • Hi there, we felt the same when Yvonne learned more about "bloat" from Dr. Larry, as she mentioned in the podcast. We worried that we might have gotten Carmie in to the vet sooner, although we'll never know if we could have recognized the symptoms sooner.

Do you have specific questions you'd like us to pass on? We often have Dr. Larry follow up on the Scratchings and Sniffings blog, in a post or even another podcast.

    Thanks for listening,

    Tom

  • We need more information on this illness. My GSD died of this within hours. If I had known about this illness prior, my dog might still be alive today.
