I own a 2007 Prius and the battery will run down in less then 8 mins while driving if it is not charged while driving. Oh and by the way if you want to run the battery down so bad then floor it! Get up to 108 mph (top speed of the Prius) and hold it there. In about five miles or less the battery will be drained. I know cause I have done it many times. The car is way faster off the line with a full battery.Thats why they want to keep it in the green.The battery is there to give the best MPG.

This guy thinks he's smarter than all of the Toyota engineers but has no facts to support. Toyota engineers determined that the battery will last longer when it is at 40%-80% charged. Also he mentioned that the engine should only output enough to move the car and not waste it recharging the battery. Internal combustion engines are inefficient at half throttle, that is why the Prius runs at full throttle and uses the excess engergy to recharge the battery.

That's not what they tell us! According to Toyota, the batteries MUST be taken to 100% periodically, and leveled.

@liveoilfree First, do you know how big the prius battery is!!!!! just because you cant see it doesnt mean it isnt there!!!!!!!!!! Second, THIS IS NOT AN ELECTRIC CAR AND IS NOT MEANT TO WORK LIKE ONE!!! The prius is a hybrid!!! not a full electric car that is meant to drain its battery down to zero!!! The car actually works better and gets more MPG if the battery is more full rather than at 20%. Do you not think toyota has not thought thoroughly about this? You dont know what a Hybrid is!!!!!

The prius is good for people that think they are being better than the rest of the world because they are "saving the environment" by driving a car that required nickel to be mined out of a nickel mine that has caused lifelessness and acid rain for miles.
