Well that sucked! Did you catch the engineer throwing litter out the window @39 into the video? I can't stand people who trash up our beautiful landscape! Cool video though, thanks for sharing.

@jpkazarian LOL that's what happens in railroading if a railroad is to survive they need to merge with another line or land up getting liquidated. that's what happened to Conrail they got liquidated and CSX and NS carved Conrail up like a turkey. SP almost got bought by BNSF but ICC desolved the merger and gave it and Rio Grande to UP resulting in Soldier Summit and Tehachapi being given to both UP and BNSF

@grapeape16 Well, you would if a train of that length and weight stopped at the same place on the line.

a lot of fallow flags SP is now part of Union Pacific Railroads Conrail is now part of Norfolk Southern and all of its northern lines are part of CSX Transport and Santa Fe is now BNSF.

@geomodelrailroader The Interstate Commerce Commission will allow a merger as long as two independent railroads end up serving the area. Thus there has been a lot of consolidation over the past few years. It's nationwide networks competing with the same. There are very few regional railroads today.

Whoa, that was such an awesome meet! But I have a question: on that day, was there something different about the first (downhill) oil can train? I didn't know they were short enough to fit inside Walong. I've always thought those unit trains were longer, what with all those tankers and big six-axle units.

@alladinmoua The downhill trains are shorter because they don't have mid-train helpers. The loop itself is 4,000 feet in circumference. However eyeballing the map at fifteen seconds into the video shows the length of the siding leading up to the loop is about as long, for a total of about 8,000 feet.
