President Mikheil Saakashvili Visit to Vilnius
Friday, October 31, Vilnius President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus met with the President of the Republic of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili. They discussed the situation in Georgia, implementation of the peace-plan agreed between the French President Sarkozy and the Russian President Medvedev, and the activities of the EU observer mission in Georgia.
Georgias President Saakashvili personally thanked President Adamkus and the people of Lithuania for extending a hand of help to Georgia at the very difficult hour. We realized who our true and closest friends are, said Georgias President.
According to President Adamkus, the EU must seek full implementation of all points of the plan endorsed by Sarkozys and Medvedevs signatures.
The EU observer mission must cover the entire Georgian territory. The situation is awkward, as the EU observers can work only with the Georgian government and are not allowed to enter the territorial units of Georgia which have declared themselves independent. Europe does not know what is going on in the breakaway regions where the hostilities sparkled, President Adamkus said.
Georgias President pointed out that Russia ignored the call to withdraw troops to the pre-conflict position, voiced in the extraordinary meeting of the EU heads of states on 1 September. Russian military units are still present in two settlements at a half an hour distance from Tbilisi, and twice as many Russian troops are deployed in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the separatist territories of Georgia, than before the war.
Lithuanias President noted that Russias determination not to honor its commitments raises legitimate doubts as to whether the dialogue with Russia could be continued . This is not the first time that Russia does not keep to its word. I agree with the NATO Secretary Generals opinion that Russia must keep to its commitment made almost a decade ago in Istanbul to withdraw its troops from Transnistria in Moldova, President Adamkus said.
Lithuanias President expressed hope that international efforts would manage to stabilize the situation in the region and to restore Georgias economy and infrastructure devastated by the military aggression. Eastern and Central European experience shows that only Euro-Atlantic integration, which has already covered many new states, can guarantee security, mutual trust and a rapid reform process. I hope this is the future of South Caucasus. The development of this process would benefit both the Western community and Russia which, I believe, is interested in pursuing a policy of good neighborhood, not disputes, President Adamkus said.

Russia is a true democratic nation, so what that it is below Nigeria in democracy ranking, so what that there were thousends of innocent people were killed in Chechnia, so what that it tried to invade the neghbouring country, so what that its two prezidents, tadpole and putana are suffering from the various paranoidal complexes, so what that there is no free media. Congratulation keep in the same spirit and I will enjoy watching your progress.
