But obviously derived from Lugosi's earlier movie The Murders of Rue Morgue, and silent movies like The Magician starring Gustav von Seyffertitz, and all of them deriving from Edgar Allan Poe's short story The Murders of the Rue Morgue, with the prototype for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, the amateur detective Augustus Dupin.
Besides Poe tales, I've always wondered about the influence of Charles Dawin's Origin of Species, and The Decent of Man.
This film gets better all the timer. im a horror film historian i love old chillers like this. Lugosi is great. Momogram & PRC werent that bad at all. good cast. wally ford is great. lots of fun clean fun and good thrills. , TOMK

Sorry, I meant Gustav von Seyffertitz in The Wizard, The Magician was by director Rex Ingram and starred Paul Wegener of Golem fame.
There was a later black actor named Rex Ingram that appeared in a Mike Henry Tarzan movie.
I tend to get the two horror titles criss-crossed.
