Sorry Glasgow from Manchester

We got national Government help with the Commonwealth Games, but really messed up when we tried to host the UEFA final. Bad organisation, poor logistics, provocative policing, the usual grandstanding and boasting by Leese and the council. I feel ashamed of this, and our city should have been professional enough to cope with a few drunks amongst the many. We need to learn from this, stop boasting about being capital of the world and learn to organise large events like other cities such as Birmingham and Cardiff which manage okay. This was a real wake-up call - we have to stop deluding ourselves that we are better than London, which has got beyond a joke, and get our act together to be the really smart regional centre we want to be. If we don't learn, other cities like Leeds and Liverpool will overtake us in a few years when it comes to being the natural place to host big events. Makes me very sad.
