Tokyo Eye - Shinjyuku Night Life (part one of two)

The Golden-Gai has it's origin in underground market started at east side of Shinjyuku Station named "Wada Gumi market" There are many of these kind of underground markets at that time because there were shortage of everything after WWII, the government restricts the consumption of goods. They removed from original place by Metropolitan gov., came to wayside of Metropolitan train.That place had some distance from downtown so some shops were having illegal prostitute without license. After prostitution are banned in '58 they renamed the place as "Golden-Gai". (From Japanese Wikipedia)
So if even you don't live in Tokyo, you can find smiler drinking place having origin from underground market in city area.
