Pollution in Mauritius - 24 Jan 09.
Lieu: Reduit, University of Mauritius
I was filming one CNT bus which was emitting black fumes, but oh! Another CNT bus which polluted more passed by.
Are you concerned with pollution? Are you willing to fight this scourge which undermines human health?

Been there many a time and the buses still pump out crap . Lack of maintenance and no intention of improvement due the government does not put pressure on these bus companies , maybe because the government are given either sweetners or back-handers to keep them quiet. Reality is these buses are death traps that would be condemned in Europe.
If Mauritius was serious in improving the health & safety as well as the enviroment , these buses should of been destroyed years ago.
Disgraceful .

It would certainly cost a lot of money to change all the buses. Right now i believe that cost is more important than the environment. I would disagree on the affordability on the country to fund the change though - considering all the financial aids Mauritius is being granted: the European Union or other economic partners on environment issues. This is clearly an environment issue. The will is clearly not there.

Because it would cost a lot to change the buses. And as you said Mauritius is a "sooo small" country, I doubt that it will be able to afford to replace all the buses.

Well, it's buses in general, not only those of a specific company...

Mauritius is sooo small, i don't get it why you people are not using buses with alternate energy like hydrogen, solar energy or gpl. i don't think a bus in Mauritius drives 12 hours non stop to get in a destination. Even so, a diesel engine smoking like that is good for just one thing - the scrap yard!

the govt is clearly to be blamed for not doing anything... if only these public buses could stop polluting it'd encourage the rest of the population.
