This is the moonrise on 11 January 2009. The mountain in front of the moon when it first appears is Mt. Baldy. You can see air traffic for both the nearby Santa Monica airport, and for LAX over to the right.

I'm uploading this here because it shows the motion of the moon as it rises in the U.S. This is what you'd see for just about any object here -- it doesn't go straight up from the horizon.

  • Awesome.

  • Thanks!

  • I am a admirer of the moon and her beauty. That's was beautiful.

  • Thank you! It was a lot of fun to shoot as well.

  • Very cool shot. I love LA at night.

  • Thank you. It has its charms. One thing that's neat is how much astronomy you can do from its confines, if you know where to go.

  • Thanks! It's fun to contrast how busy we are here on the surface while the moon, sun and stars just do their daily glide-by overhead.

  • Woah,that's cool. xD
