I took my 18' dome tent to Interfuse 2011 this past weekend, and used it for the first time. It was awesome. I put it up by myself in about an hour, and when serious storms hit that night that tore apart other campers' tents, I stayed warm and dry. I highly recommend these tents!

  • Interesting tent. How does it do in severe storms? Any hurricanes as of yet?

  • @ministercreek I don't recommend riding out a hurricane in any tent, but as far as the strength of this tent, I was very impressed. It stayed dry and stable throughout a bad storm that lasted several hours. I'll be taking it to the Gateway Burn this week, and I have complete confidence in it now. In the rain, the key is to seal up your door flaps. I sealed 3 for the entire campout with all weather duct tape, and only used one door the whole time.

  • @scottcrumpler I actually plan to try hurricane camping this year, LORD willing.

  • @ministercreek Be sure to post a video of your camp if you do -- I'd love to see it! I took a quick look at your channel page and enjoyed the videos of your camp setups.

  • @scottcrumpler Thank you and yes I do pan to video record my hurricane camping experience :)

  • @ministercreek The poles are actually PVC, which makes it possible to bend under tension, and the covering material is a special woven & laminated PVC material that does not stretch at all, which means that the poles on the outside keep it perfectly taut. It's a very simple but ingenious setup.

  • @scottcrumpler Yes this tent has thick gauge aluminum poles it appears. how many poles doe this tent have?

  • @ministercreek It was in a very severe storm the first night I used it at Interfuse. No hurricane, but thunder, massive lightning, and high winds. You could really hear the wind whipping around it from the inside, which was a wild experience, but it never even gave a hint of strain. The company does offer a disclaimer that the tent should not be used to survive a hurricane, but that's more of a "cover their ass" disclaimer. If you had to be in a hurricane in a tent, this is the one to be in.

  • @LilRaverBoi308 Thanks man! Next time make sure you say hello! I'm kind of obsessed with domes myself. They make an extremely pleasant space to be in. I absolutely loved the Cirque du Iowhomp dome, by the way. I stopped in several times late at night. I talked to this guy Aaron from the Iowa camp for a while there on Friday night. Real nice guy and good conversation.

  • I saw your dome last weekend. It's great to see/hear more about it. I walked around it and really wanted to look inside, but knew it was someone's personal space. Either way, very cool structure, for sure. Excellent work. I'm kind of dome-obsessed LOL....I built the Iowa dome three years ago and have plans in a few years to hopefully make something bigger/better.
