Hi i am a new urgent blood driver , the excemptions change all the time regarding emergency vehicles.... urgent blood cars are aloud to pass a red light under blues and twos ....still no emergency vehicle is aloud to go to the right on a keep lefft sign or to drive down a one way street or pass through a no entry sign!

@MERCMAN2 (old post I know but) are you sure you are 100% correct? It was my understanding that blood vehicles had all normal exemptions EXCEPT the ability to exceed the speed limit (which here the car probably wasn't since the traffic was slow). Plus local police forces can forward particular vehicles certain exemptions in their area which the general law doesn't allow. A good example of this are HEMS Doctor Vehicles (helicopter replacements) which *technically* should not have blue lights.

Mercman2 as pcjoel999 said and as a blood driver the blood service do hav exceptions too like driving on the right of a keep left sign and goin through red lights, keep up to date son!!!

@PoliceMadAlex fair enough, I disagree but I'm not going to argue,
take care and help keep those roads safe for every one. peace!

@mattbiker78 I'm actually older than 18, I don't want people knowing my true age. I was a software developer years ago before joining the Police.
The point is, he is driving dangerously under blue lights. I stand by my first comment of that he should be in lane three and not on the hard shoulder as it's not standstill traffic.

@MERCMAN2 as a medic ambulances can use exemptions when transporting these matierals as can blood cars in certain circumstances.
-
@PoliceMadAlex oh? i thought you were an 18 year old software developer, if this is not the case then I am sorry, as as far as I was aware most blue n 2's training couldn't be done until the age of 21? is that correct? I'm not certain as I did mine when I was 27.

@mattbiker78 I have no idea? I'm a blue light trained driver I daily travel on blue and twos at high speeds on motorways. So yes, actually I do have some idea...
odd, its a blood vehicle, so has no exemptions from road traffic law. it is allowed blue lights to show urgency an to allow it to pass through traffic but it is not allowed to exceed speed limit, go to the right of a keep left sign or treat a red light as a give way. The only vehicles that have exemptions in emergencys is police, fire and ambulance. yet not even ambulance are allowed to use exemptions when takin urgent blood or organs.
also the vehicle shouldnt be using hardshoulder.

@MERCMAN2 Thanks for the info I did't know that.

The traffic is slowing thus taking the emergency shoulder avoids causing traffic in front to take evasive action '' stupid''.
It is very hard to negotiate traffic and so, as a blue lght driver, i would look for the easy answer , to get my '' delivery'' through.
I have used shoulder once on the m40 total gridlock and it was blocked by idiots trying to gain on gridlocked traffic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@linsinaprill I understand blue light driving must be hard. I agree causing traffic to take evasive action is dangerous.

Well his driving is dangerous!
He should be in lane three. The hard shoulder is a big no no unless the whole carriageway is at a standstill.

@PoliceMadAlex Yeah, your right there was plenty of room for him to get past safely, thanks for pointing that out, i knew hard shoulders are for emergencies only but did't know that applied to blue light users too.
