University of Minnesota Medical School researcher Jon Grant have discovered that a common anti-oxidant, widely available as a health food supplement, may help stop the urges of those with trichotillomania, a disorder characterized by compulsive hair-pulling. The supplement, N Acetyl Cysteine, could lead to additional developments in treating other compulsive and addictive disorders, such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and gambling addiction.

  • This piece of research is a great step forward for people like myself who suffer from trich.

I'd like to send my feelings of gratitude towards everyone involved in the research, experiment, and publication of this work and all work that has led up to it. Thanks. :)

  • A friend sent this to me because she knows my struggle, its so comforting to know I'm not alone and we can overcome in our own way.

  • nice video.. informative... never thought thats a disorder..

  • Well I guess I'll try this..

  • I disagree that there are sub-types of trich. I believe there are stages of trich as it progresses. In the beginning stage, most of us pulled without realizing we were pulling. It progresses from there..

There is no magic pill for trich and it's heartbreaking to put hope in a pill or anything else, and have it not work.

The way I got freedom from hair puling is through God.

    I have a website, it's whydoipull . com

  • @mskapay i was just wondering what you were recomending ppl with trich take?

  • this works too. you need to take at least 1200 mg and you need to take it twice a day, at 8 hour intervals. you need to give it 9 weeks for the full effect to work. I have a really bad case of trich and I'm about 90% pull free with this. I take 1000 mg twice a day. it's really helpful and all pullers should try it. far better than behaviour treatment.

  • @florencelovme Typo. I meant it's just NOT acceptable in society that you are a female and don't have hair. Yeah. So it's tough.
