@zaius316 At this time, the WWF was associated with the NWA (from 1971 to 1983). Harley Race made several appearances as NWA world champ at Madison Square Garden during this stretch. When Vince Jr. took full control of the WWF, he left the NWA.

you all sound surprised about mentioning the nwa title...you do know that there were at least 2 wwf vs nwa title matches right? it wasnt such a big deal to mention other territories back then because each region depended on the others for success.

That was outrageous. I always felt that a villain in the WWF did not have to push the envelope to the edge by pulling such a stunt. A heel can be very patriotic, too. I can say that the members of the Heenan Family stayed out of politics. They just wanted to bring home the gold, which was fine with me.
I would have preferred the sergeant to be fully on the side of the U.S.A. I was so happy when he pinned the nitwit warrior for the belt. However, his flag-burning acts got a bit annoying.
