Did you forget to address the conflict as to whether or not Jack and his sister return to Earth or stay on the alien planet? If they return to Earth does the alien girlfriend come with them? Would love to know, and felt unresolved not knowing. BTW~ Did you ever write the story? Would love to read it if you did!

@SurvivalPath I did end up writing the story. It came out different but better. The ending is much stronger. I haven't gotten around to editing it, though, so I'd rather it not be read. However, I plan to write it as a screenplay after I finished the screenplay I am presently working on, a sci-fi epic called Namverse.

@myrightquestion A frame story follows the same overall structure. You just creatively frame it with a story within a story, or jumping from past to present, but you still hit all the story structure marks. An example of this is Merrick by Anne Rice.

@rex3487 Sure, you would just reduce it to three acts. The basics. Person has a conflict, a goal, resistence reaching that goal, which is another kind of conflict, and then they reach the goal or utterly fail, but perhaps learn something by failing.
