it's a purple bat on some of the comics. i wondered if that had anything to do with it (it's "death of a mauve bat" i think the joker says). it could all be a red herring though. you'd be more likely to keep your sanity trying to work out one of the riddler's riddles.

There's definitely significance to 1936 but I can't pinpoint it. I get quite a few hits searching "BATMAN 1936," however. The most notable being the first issue issue of the pulp The Whisperer (October 1936) in which Commissioner Gordon was introduced.
Any help on other ideas for why 1936 was selected for the script?

In his book, Adam West said that this was one of his favorite episodes. He liked the commentary on pop art.
