@suzuki834 you my friend are incorrect to a certain extent

do have instructions you can send me via email on how to make this?

Lol, grapefruit.

Way to much pressure. As you found out you got fruit juice instead of a whole intact projectile going as far as it could. I have an air canon with an 80 gal tank and we run 30 PSI. we shoot 8" pumpkins over 1200 feet. Get a bigger air tank. You'll be better off with more CFM then PSI

oh your good at counting

longer barrel= more acceleration time

What are you doing there omg bobs!

using a program for calculating the performance of pneumatic cannons(called ggdt) i was able to determine based upon how you cannon looks and what valve your using that you achieved roughly 350fps, 4800 ft/lbs and 1587feet with the first 120psi shot, :) so you were close with the 490m guesstimate

If you buy valves they can be expensive. If you build your own, they don't have to be. I have a video on a home built quick dump valve. O rings were 30 cents each. The valve body is made from an iron pipe nipple. The valve core is made from HDPE cutting board stock. For a cheap tank, I used a disposable propane tank in the little one and a Freon tank for the large one. The golf ball was free.
Yea, i used that program when designing the cannon just to get some idea on how far it could go.

the "valve" was a metal disk essentially made from layers of thin aluminum between the barrel and chamber. the barrel was made from 4" copper pipe, while the chamber was 6" PVC

how was it triggered?
WobblyFiddle 3 years ago
it was triggered by the air pressure overcoming the disks between the barrel and chamber, literally bursting out. i chose this option because it was the largest and quickest option for getting all the air out

at the same time though you have no way of knowing exactly when its gonna trigger. have you heard of using a Coaxial Piston Valve?
WobblyFiddle 3 years ago
it wasnt something we were worried about controling the timing, but those coax piston valves are like the "supah" valves right? someone else for this competition used one of those, we didnt have the budget for one, most of the materials used for that didnt cost us anything
