I've read the comic book and it says that two outlaws dared him to wear the redhood mask and he went to the factory where he used to work when the police saw him and started shooting but couldn't hit. Then the batman came and jumped in front of him and he overreacted and jumped into the chemicals which caused the joker to form.

actually the original red hood WAS the joker....the NEW red hood is jason todd.

an ACTUAL "real name" for the Joker. Any true up to date comic adaptation will always list as "unknown" I dont even think the joker actually knows. This is the beauty of the character...so dont take theyre flak kid...this incarnation of the story may be the joker's "thursday adaptaion" of the events that made him who he is. But no one will ever know....not even the joker..although it IS usually common that the event in which "a red hood" was pushed into a vat occured at ACE Chemicals not Axis.

@ kingbats45  yr partially correct. This is the excepted orgion of the joker yes...but if you read the killing joke you may have missed a very important underlying theme in that book. This story is fro mthe mind of the joker himself. As he admits "If I'm going to have a past, id prefer it be multiple choice. The joker doesnt really know if any of what he is saying is actually true..day to day he may believe that story or he may belive another story. That is also why you will never find

the joker was created when his wife was gonna have a baby so he wanted money and asked to thugs to help and they said he had to act like the red hood and lead them through a factory but then his wife and kid died in a fire and he couldn't back out of the deal and that's when batman coroned him and he fell into the chemicals becoming joker and that's the true story of joker how do i know you may ask well i bought the killing joke comic and it showed joker's past
