If you want to see some amazing action in model aircraft, or you just love speed, then come to the Bundaberg Aeromodellers field at Golchert Drive, Kinuna.
Official Practice commences on the 10th of August with the World Championships starting the next day until Sunday the 14th August 2011. Admission will be by gold coin donation.
Pylon racing involves flying a state of the art, fully hollow moulded, composite model aircraft weighing 2.250kg with a wing span of 1.8m around a triangular course measuring 400m. Competitors complete 10 laps of the course which is in excess of 4km flown, with a current world record time of 56.66 seconds.
Three competitors fly at a time with the planes doing up to 360km/h in what can only be described as a blinding flash. The planes are powered by a 6.5cc(.4cu inch) motor spinning at approximately 35,000rpm.
Catering will be available at the field, so, bring your deck chair, hat, and sun screen and expect to be amazed as you watch the world's best fight to be crowned the World Champion for 2011.
Countries being represented are: UK, Guatemala, Italy, New Zealand, Netherlands, Japan, Taiwan, Germany, USA, France, Sth Africa, Czech Rep, Brazil, Sweden, Quatar, Mexico, & the Russians, with Australia set to do our best to beat them all "Go Team Australia !!!!"
