  • the common use of salary, referring to a salaried employee gained widespread usage during the industrial revolution when salaried positions became very common. salary is derived from the Roman word "salarium" a term that meant a soldier's allowance to purchase salt.

  • Actually the origin of the word does come from the word salt but in directly when the Salt standard was degraded and they began being paid in vegetables (salad. This is also the origin of the expression "that's a lot of green" in reference to the general's pay - a Ceasere's Salad!
