Apparently if hold down the command key for 3 seconds while inverting it this works :s that's just what I have been told

So I ended up fixing this problem by buying a can of compressed air and spraying it probably 8 - 10 times into the DVD drive. It was a bit intermittent at first, but I kept spraying until finally it came good. Must have been a dust issue or something obstructing the lens. All fixed now though so give it a go yourselves :)
