Despite the UNs tragic losses during the earthquake, MINUSTAH has supported the relief efforts by working to maintain stability in and around Port-au-Prince, securing the airport, and clearing roads to allow aid and rescuers to reach those in need.
The UN is responsible for coordinating the delivery of humanitarian aid on the ground, and the U.S. military and civilians are working to support the UN in facilitating and accelerating the delivery of humanitarian assistance. The United States has pledged $100 million in aid, while the UN has pledge $10 million from its Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF). The UN has assessed that Haiti will need $1.4 billion to recover; almost half of that has been committed.
