In this quick response video to Chris Pirillo's "Should Piracy Stay Alive?" video on LockerGnome.com, I go over my opinion on the state of online piracy and the difference between sharing and piracy.

  • I read an article yesterday that summed it up fairly well. Those that want their media / software for free will find a way to do it REGARDLESS of the method / laws etc. Even if they could buy the thing for 1 penny, and it takes 2 weeks to get it for free, they'll choose the free route every time.

  • @TheMadPoppet - I heard something similar happened when Radiohead did the whole "pay whatever you want" for their album In Rainbows. You can't compete with free.

  • Piracy is a way of saying 'fuck you' to over priced media. The old 'if you didn't pirate, it wouldn't be so expensive' bullshit is a myth. Large companies charge as much as they can get away with, the dollar is greater than fairness. If we all stopped pirating, they'd be like BOOM to our profits, there is now no other source for people to get our shit, let's make it even dearer now we run the monopoly!
