Cynthia Lewman of Toymaker Press shows how to make an inexpensive, child-safe, non-toxic wood toy miracle finish. The finish wipes clean with a damp cloth and is soft to the touch. The utensils used are easily cleaned with hot water and dishwashing soap. Beeswax can be purchased online or found at local hobby stores such as Michael's and Hobby Lobby. • I was wondering if you could use a double boil pan to do this procedure ? I think I'll try it and let ya know:) I have a pan I purchased from a popular 'junk ' book that you can put the water in a spout and the ingredients never touches the bottom of a pan, just the water. Beeswax sure isn't an easy thing to come by, and not real cheap either. I think I'll purchase it next off of the net ! Thanks again for sharing :)

  • Hi,

Double boiler works great and yes you can buy the beeswax off the internet. I bought a 1 lb. block at Michaels Crafts store and was able to print a 40% off coupon from their website. The block wound up costing less than $8. I bought the mineral oil at Walmart for about $1.50. It's a lot more expensive at CVS or Wagreens. Good luck! Cynthia

  • I have made this mixture and am very pleased with it. I have one question regarding food safe stains. Do you have any suggestions as to what could be added to this mixture to darken it? I turn wood on a lathe and often times I need to darken the finish somewhat but have not found anything that mixes well with this and is foodsafe.

  • Can this mixture be used to seal interior doors or floors? I am chemically sensitive and can't use any of the natural resin sealers or commercial wood sealers. Would multiple coats give a harder finish?

    Thanks.

  • Thank you so much for this wonderful video! You really are an amazing teacher - you are going at the perfect pace, not missing any very important safety reminders when working with the heated mixture ( I am not sure at all that I wouldn't miss some of those important points while learning to make this mixture), you make it perfectly clear and detailed. I am now looking forward to visiting and studying your website about making wooden toys.

  • Hello again ! Yes the double boiler worked great ! Just had to remember to pour from the opposite side of the spout on the pan I have LOL . Being that the beeswax is shaved makes it go further than I realized it would, making it VERY inexpensive ! The 1 lb block from Michaels will make several batches ! (I too now have a 40% coupon :) ) I applied it to some blocks I made for some preschool children ! It worked great !Hands are nice and soft too LOL I appreciate your help :) Have a great day:)

  • Thank you sooo much for this step by step video of how to make this finish. I'm going this afternoon to see if our hobby store has the bees wax ! Thanks for posting
