Here´s my Gibson Les Paul Custom from... (thats what I need/want to know), Made in U.S.A. serial #127732, body is in three parts, gold hardware... only change I did is the treble/bass plastic knob that originally was black, I lost it, and my store only had white (but its original), everything is as it came from store in Brussels (I belive..), my Uncle bought it, and after several years of use, he gave it to me when I was 14, now Im 28. Would love to get it dated and valued. Thanks in advance.

update: it seems of beeing from mid 69 and start of 71 somewhere in between. lets see if I come closer to the exactly date.

  • search on google for 6230-gibson-logo and click on the first page there. At the second page, first picture is without the dot on the i and is from a 69 SG standard... but go to first page and look the 77 model has exactly same logo as mine.. comment nr. 26 btw.

  • thanks for last year comments, sorry I havent replied all but will try more efficiently from now on.

it is a 69-73 les paul custom (most probably 71 though)

about the logo on headstock, it is known that several 70´s model have it without the dot on the i, aswell as minor differences on the letters... check the G and how the O and N are conected on comment nr. 26 (look at the right top corner of the messages at...

  • That's gorgeous ! Did you find the year ? I recently rewarded myself (for finishing college) with a custom black beauty. SN: CS 001187. I had to call Gibson to figure it out. apparently mines a 2010, although I have no idea how the numbers work.

  • @ebouwman034 They did, up until 1978. It pretty straightforward now. 1st and 5th digits after '78 are the year, you can even tell what day of the year it was made by the 2nd, 3rd, 4th numbers. Custom shop models still sometimes have messed up S/N's though.

  • This is a 1971 Custom. You can tell by the format, and look of the serial number and positioning of the "Made in USA" imprint.

  • @CJsoccer4 No, the Standard never had, or has the block inlays, or the split-diamond headstock inlay..

  • mabe about 75 i had one just like it but i traded for a black 75

  • it looks like a 1970-72 les paul standard

  • Nice guitar man

To be more shure you can get in touch whit the Gibson service and ask them to give you some infos.

Due to the several changes in Gibson serialization procedures, sometimes it's very difficult also for them to date precisely a guitar only from the serial, but giving them the serial plus some closeups pics of the guitar sometimes they can menage to date it anyway and tell you if looks all original.

At list that's what I did to date my 1973 Les Paul custom cherry sunburst
