Saw Gene Krupa in 1940's on roof restaurant Hotel Astor,NYC..the weekend army plane struck Empire State Building, could look up and see the patched hole. During a radio broadcast remote live,,we stood front of the bandstand,he kept watching me and chewing gum and winking at me.Right after the broadcast went off the air, he talked to me and signed a menu I still have.

Way cool.....and I was fortunate to talk with Gene twice as a kid....and he paid attention to me. A gentleman. And as a pro drummer I played Johnny Desmond's Show three times! Orlando at Disney...MPLS at the Prom Ballroom and in NYC at a Long Island Country Club in 1979. Great singer indeed. John-Hans Melcher "TheQuietDrummer"
