@mitchblack Well,if you think about it,the 429 had 30 extra HP because it had 3 more cubic inches of displacement.Ever take that into consideration? What ever makes you feel better about yourself.

great stuff

a shot of one of the wrecked cars showed it still had 4 wheel drum brakes. makes me feel better about my 73 with 4 wheel drums.

Nowadays the only thing different is the engines.
-
where are the charger daytonas?
-
These guy's were real racers.

Pretty cool Ford / Petty footage in the pits at 2:30. Ford and Mercury doninated in68 and 69

And this, my dear little ones, was REAL Winston Cup, Grand National, Nascar racing. No restrictor plate nonesense. No equalizing rules to level the field.
And just remember you Chrysler fans, the Ford Boss 429 bested the 426 Hemi by about 30 flywheel horsepower.
Regards
Mitch

Seeing this reminds me of "I Dream of Jeannie"...
they put rules on and they found a way around them I have allot of cool nascar motors etc from back then and find all kinds of crazy mods they did. I found counter weights in my NASCAR 71 charger.

@ronkirkpatrick it's been awhile but I've seen pics of factory R&D engineers from one of the "Big 3" standing next to big block chain driven DOHC 4 valve per cylinder monsters from back in the day meant for NASCAR racing. Apparently these engines never made it to the track but I wonder where they are now. Hopefully someone saved these things. Do you have pics of your collection?

An attempt at stopping what happened to Carl Edwards at Talladega first led to restrictor plate, then common bodies (also cost control, detroit's move away from speedway-inspired passenger cars). Thing is Edwards in 2009 was going about 20 mph slower than Allison in '87, and it still happened. Seems to me the solution didn't solve the problem. youtube com /watch?v=yt5XCCgwulA
