Industrialization and commercialization in Ghana has brought some jobs and the beginnings of modern comforts to the poor in Ghana. Unfortunately, the waste that is generated from the new services and products has dire consequences for the environment. Rainforest is cut down to provide timber for construction, plastic cannot be safely burned so it is left strewn on the ground and clogging rivers and streams, raw sewage is transported in open pit sewers which run parallel on every street, garbage is dumped in the ocean, high emission vehicles pollute the city air. This is in stark contrast to the exquisite beauty that remains in protected parks and rural areas. Solutions to address these problems are in dire need.

  • this is really sad and im sure a lot of people are aware of it, but nothing is being done. when i was there, i did notice the huge amount of garbage around in certain areas. why doesnt the government address these issues. its obviously destroying the environment and it is heartbreaking to see the sand and the ocean in these conditions. something needs to be done.
